May 5 - Lambs Canyon Rd

Sunny day with highs in the mid-60s.

I leave "work" an hour early to look for butterflies.

When I arrive, it looks like a bad choice as there are numerous cars in the lot. :(

But I go anyway; it's a road with plenty of space and a breeze.

The Forget-me-knots are increasing in numbers and the Bisquitroot is still pending a big bloom. Also out but not in bloom are Geraniums, Waterleaf (these are guys are starting) and Heartleaf Arnica.

I also find this curious plant with buds. Hope I remember to check it out next time I go.

Still very dry, no mud for puddling until I reach the trail head.

Still I  manage to see 1 Mourning Cloak, 2 CA Tortoiseshells, 2 Painted Ladies,

3 Orangetips, 10+ Spring Azures

and the prize of the day, a Mustard White.

Add that to my 1st Tiger Beetle sighting in Lambs Canyon, my 1st grasshopper of the year and a squirrel.

I was hoping to walk the trail today but there's 2 adult males hogging the bridge and a couple of kids playing in the snow on the other side.

Call me paranoid but I'm not passing within inches of them. (There was a Mom & son behind me who thought the same thing and went down.)

Good day!
