May 15 - Mormon Trail

Sunny day with highs in the mid-60s after the morning clouds burn off sometime towards mid-day.

About 1pm I leave for me first visit to the Mormon Trail of the year. Not even sure I can get past the lead-in section to get to the trail as the nearby beaver floods it.

After crossing the bridge, things look somewhat promising because I don't run into water immediately like in past years. But I don't have to go much farther before I run into running water.

I turn and find the little grass trail that people made last year leading to a board across a 1 foot wide stream. I cross the board and climb a steep little hill and I'm away from the water. I head down to the actual trail.

I'm immediately seeing Whites and a little Spring Azure Blue.

Down on the main trail. I see a couple of Mylitta Crescents zipping around sometimes chasing each other.

I see another Blue and a Juba Skipper.

I move slowly down the trail seeing more White. One finally stops; it's a Large Marble!

I see a Painted Lady and a Duskywing and Common Checkered Skippers.

Although the stream is following fast, there's no stream on the trail which is a bit surprising. Probably because we haven't had rain in a long time.

I finally run into some water on the trail not far from stream merge. And the stream merge is my stopping point. There's plenty of tree trunks crossing the stream but not feeling like a gymnast today; should've wore my other boots. Oh well!

On the way back, I identify the larger white as a Cabbage White. Good day!
