May 14 - Lambs Canyon Rd & Trail

Mostly cloudy day with highs in the mid-60s.

After work I head up to Lambs Canyon for a walk. Not expecting many butterflies as it's only 60 degrees, windy and there's no sun. But it's still a beautiful day. (Especially since most of Utah will move to Yellow on Saturday. I say most because Salt Lake City is not moving as is Grand (Moab), Summit (Park City) and Wasatch counties). Maybe next week.

The Biscuitroot is in bloom now along with Ragwort (I think).

As are the Heart-leafed Arnica.

The Solomon's Seal is still coming along.

I was hoping for some wet mud today because we did have some showers the other day but it's unfortunately dry.

I do find a Painted Lady and a couple of Blues.

I reach the trail and decide to head up.

The trail is clear and dry. Lots of green plants emerging. And the lime green fresh aspen leaves are awesome.

There's a little snow in the gullies.

In the first section, I find Fairy Bell; very exciting.

Lots of small orange/brown moths flying as I head up.

I find fresh moose tracks in the mud.

Another surprise on the trail are Virgin's Bowers in bloom up along after the first switchback.

I want to make it to the meadow but stop at the turn for the 3 switchback far shy of the meadow. The snow is building off trail now. I'm at 7700 ft; I've climbed over 1500 ft from my start at the parking. Will finish another day.

On the way down, I scare up a snake; a Western Garter Snake I believe.

And find a few blooming Strawberries in bloom.

Good day!
