Sunny day with highs near 80 degrees.
I was up near Antelope Island for other reasons so decided to stop by for a quick hike.
I arrive around 4:30 pm.
Shorebirds along the causeway are still lower than the last few weeks.
Near the Visitor's Center, 10+ lone bison bulls scattered about before the fence line.
Bison on lake bed and shoreline (in places I've never seen them before).
But no big herds.
I arrive at the Ranch and happy to see that the bison that have been around Mushroom Springs have moved on. Where they moved, I have no clue.
I head down to the trail head spotting 3 Pronghorn in the field to the west.
I gear up and I'm on my way to Mushroom Springs. I have no intention of completing the trail even though I do have time before sunset; I'm going up to the switchback and along the switchback for a while hoping to spot those Pronghorn.
Lots of moths flying, along with a few grasshoppers, dragonflies and small lizards.
Sunflowers, Rabbitbrush (??) still blooming.
I reach the switchback and start across - I cannot find the Pronghorns. But I do see a bison not far from the parking lot. I'm not sure where he came from but I sure hope he stays where he is - away from the parking.
Fortunately for me, he moves a little south and then lays down.
I reach my car; it's 6pm and time to head home.
On the way north, I see at least two Pronghorn that I didn't see before and a decent size herd near the Gravel Pit trail.
