Oct 6 - Twin Lakes Loop (Big Cottonwood Canyon)

Smokey but sunny day with highs in the low 80s.

It's my Dad's birthday; since I can't go out and celebrate, I'm going on a hike and taking my Dad along (in spirit). Heading up to hike to Twin Lakes; my normal loop.

I arrive around 3:30. Main parking looks full but the overflow is empty.

It's near 70s but feels a little cool. Definitely looks different in the late afternoon.

I head up towards Lake Solitude. I'm nearing the steps when I hear some leaves rustling. Hey, there's a moose!! It's a female and she's looking at me. I'm ready to turn around but she goes back eating so I pass on by. (I think Dad is bringing me some good luck.)

I warn people as they pass by as she's near the trail. I'm told there are deer ahead.

And sure enough, a bit later, I see a 4-pt buck and a doe. Oh! There's another 4 pt-buck and 2 more doe. Nice little herd.

About 50 feet later, there are 2 additional doe. It's definitely a deer day!

I reach Lake Solitude and continue up the big hill.

At one point, I see a lone Grouse. Boy, I've seen alot of these this year!

Soon I reach the top and head to my "perch" for a quick rest.

Time to head down. I don't stop at the lake but continue on down.

At the switchback, I see a lone deer on the downside. She's looking at me.

Still on the switchback but a little farther, there's yet another deer farther down the slope. Definitely a deer day!

And the Pika are still scurrying a bout up here.

Then it's back to the lake. Great day!
