Sunny day with highs in the low 70s. (Record heat)
It's such a great day I have to take a hike but the options are slim since the time change. So I'm heading up BCC to hike up to Willow Lake. Actually looking forward to the steep hike on my way to the lake.
Quite a few people up in the Canyon enjoying the great day.
I arrive at the trail head and there's quite a few cars there.
Time to head up the trail.
The plan is to hike the steep trail up and the new, less steep, trail on the way back.
Heading up to the decision point, the vegetation is all brown. Not even a lone surviving flower anywhere. The aspens are totally naked.
When I arrive at the trail intersection, I'm shocked that the steep trail is closed; piles of branches in the trail AND there's a newer trail that goes to the right. I'm actually upset that the old trail is closed but I guess as the population rises, there's a need to make the trails easier and safer. :(
I'm also shocked as they built the other trail last year; not sure why they built another this year. And they constructed the trail quickly. I was here on Sept 21 and they hadn't started yet.
The new trail is nice: not rocky, dirt and wide.
Up, up I go until I reach the meadow. It's still pretty even without the leaves.
I don't see any ground squirrels or even birds for that matter.
I make my way to the lake. Pretty stunning reflections as I move around the lake.
Then it's thru the forest
and back to my starting point. No moose today.
Although I can head back on the new trail from last year, I head down this year's new trail.
Good day!
