Heading up to Antelope Island this morning to hike for the 1st time in 2 weeks. We finally have a cooler day - weather says the island will only be 82, so it's time (and besides I'm still too sore for the mountains).
Beautiful morning but my car thermometer already say 79 degrees as I cross the causeway (oops). But there is a wind which will definitely help.
Lots of gulls and avocets as I cross (and some Canadian Geese).
I reach the island and head directly to the Gravel Pit parking passing several solo male bison spread out to the east of the Visitor's Center.
I want to check on the Burrowing Owl so I pass the trail turn-off and head down the hill, turn around and find the family out in the morning sun. I get out of my car to get a better view; big mistake as they all flying making all kinds of noises. Darn!
Fortunately, they land several feet away and I'm still being watched. :)
I head up the road and into the parking lot. I gear up and start up the trail.
Lots of mating Meadowhawk dragonflies all along the trail.
And a lone Pronghorn too!
Not to much else along the trail (no bison, deer or additional Pronghorn).
It's not bad out either because of the nice wind.
I reach Beacon Hill and enjoy the views for a bit
before heading back.
He looks like he's in prison.
Once back at my car, I head to the west side of the island to look for baby Pronghorn. No babies but I find one Pronghorn behind a bison
and another one laying not too far away.
I circle around to the other side of the Visitor's Center in search of Burrowing Owl - no one is out at this time.
Good day!
